This is a nondestructive technique method for detecting discontinuities that are open to the surface, such as cracks, seams, laps, lamination, through leak, or lack of fusion and are applicable to in-process, final and maintenance examination.
The method relies on the interaction between a liquid and the surface of a part. The liquid enters surface cavitiesand later to emerge, revealing the locations, shape and size of the discontinuity. Fluorescent and visible penetrants, emulsifiers (oil- and water-based), solvent removers and developers are used with this technique, and are chosen according to the application.
Metals and nonmetals (plastics, ceramics, glass) can be examined with this technique. This technique is inexpensive and easy to use and has many advantages over other methods, especially in the case of complex shapes.
Bess MTI provides liquid penetrant testing services performed by certified operators. Our instrumentation consists of 2 liquid penetrant tank systems.
